Outdoor access enables grassroots cycling, walking and rural tourism, with real public health and rural economy returns. National parks cover a tenth of England and Wales and depend on a thin layer of rangers and volunteers to stay open, maintain access, manage habitat and host millions of visitors a year. The cohort will go trail-building in the Brecon Beacons to see the funding and workforce model behind public access to the uplands.
Learning outcomes: Take part in practical access work; understand funding and workforce pressures; examine how recreation, conservation and local economic benefit are balanced.
