Overview

National parks cover a tenth of England and Wales and depend on a thin layer of rangers and volunteers to stay open, maintain access, manage habitat and host millions of visitors a year. The cohort will go trail-building in the Brecon Beacons to see the funding and workforce model behind public access to the uplands.

Learning outcomes: See how access infrastructure is maintained; understand the role of rangers and volunteers; examine how conservation, tourism and local economies are balanced.
