Members will understand why pupils leave mainstream education and how alternative provision can reduce the long-term risks associated with exclusion.
Overview

Permanent exclusions and suspensions have reached record levels, and the evidence linking the loss of a mainstream place to later contact with criminal justice, A&E and long-term worklessness is well established. The cohort will head to Bristol to see how PRUs and community organisations work with children outside mainstream schools.

Learning outcomes: Visit PRUs and community provision; hear from practitioners and young people; examine links between exclusion, health, justice and employment.
