Overview

The UK has the longest coastline in Europe, and its citizens’ maritime and coastal safety is often the responsibility of volunteers and services running on donations, covering the full breadth of coastal rescue operations. The cohort will go on site at Lee-on-the-Solent and Poole to see search and rescue and volunteer operations that deliver lifesaving response.

Learning outcomes: See coastal search-and-rescue operations in practice; understand volunteer training and funding models; examine how agencies coordinate lifesaving response.
