Headline Outcomes
Members will understand why rescue in remote terrain requires different command, communications, staffing and response models from urban emergency services.
Overview

Most emergency response policy is built around the urban model, but remote and rural rescue is a different discipline entirely. Weather, terrain, communications, and volunteer rescue crews mean operations are often more complex and require more time. The cohort will go into the Highlands to see how mountain rescue and the volunteer coastguard operate where other emergency services are hours away.

Learning outcomes: Examine the operational impact of weather and terrain; understand the role of volunteers; explore coordination where statutory services may be hours away.
