Members will understand how physical activity and active travel can operate as practical, low-cost interventions within health and community policy.
Overview

A GP referral into physical activity sounds simple on paper and does serious work in practice, cutting demand on appointments, medication and hospital admission for a fraction of the cost; the Cohort will steward a parkrun to see how social prescribing actually lands and what evidence backs it. They will also become Bikeability instructors in South Yorkshire, where an Active Travel strategy sets out to improve health through an increase in cycling and walking.

Learning outcomes: Experience social prescribing in practice; examine the evidence behind activity referrals; understand how local active-travel systems can improve health and reduce demand.
